“You want to change the World, son? One Act of Random Kindness at a time”. ~ Evan Almighty (2007)
It was drizzling as I left the office yesterday and figured I didn’t needed an umbrella. I would be fine. A little rain never hurt anyone, right? And it would be interesting to find out if anyone with an umbrella in this busy city would actually offer to shelter me from the rain a bit. So I walked into the cold, wet night. Then the rain got heavier.
Just as I was thinking that no one in this city cares about anyone other than their phone, a nice young man walked up next to me and sheltered me from the rain. It was as simple as that. He didn’t utter a word. He just quietly stepped up next to me and stood there with his umbrella as we waited for the green man to cross the streets. This one simple Act of Random Kindness restored my believe in humanity.
As we go through our daily grind, we’ve become so self-absorbed in ourselves and our needs that we fail to notice the people around us. If only all of humanity was able to do just one single Act of Random Kindness every single day, the world would be a much better place. Well I can’t change everyone, but I can start with myself.
For things to change, I must change first.
Bit by bit, one single ARK at a time.
